  • Mission [1]
    • The work of the Committee supports the mission and strategic goals of the Economics and Statistics Administration of the Department of Commerce. The Committee's advice on statistical methodology, research needed, and other technical matters related to the collection, tabulation, and analysis of Federal economic statistics helps the department to maintain and improve the accuracy, timeliness, and relevance of its data. Committee members are individuals with demonstrated professional abilities and qualifications whose experience is directly relevant to the functions and tasks performed by the agency. Therefore, they are exceptionally qualified to advise the agency with regard to economic concepts and theory, new and developing statistical techniques, and emerging technologies that may help to accomplish the department's goals. In addition, the Committee's joint sponsorship (by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Bureau of the Census, and the Bureau of Economic Analysis) has led to improved communication, cooperation, and coordination of methodologies among the three sponsoring agencies.
