- The committee is mandated by P.L. 108-360, the 2004 reauthorization of the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP).
By statute, the committee is composed of representatives of research & academic institutions, industry standards development
organizations, state & local government, & financial committees who are qualified to provide advice on earthquake
hazards reduction & represent all related scientific, architectural, & engineering disciplines. The committee shall
assess trends and developments in the science & engineering of earthquake hazards reduction; effectiveness of the program
in carrying out its prescribed activities; need to revise the program; and the management, coordination, implementation, &
activities of the program.
