- ITAC 15 plays an active role in advising the U.S. Government on negotiating objectives and priorities for the WTO Doha round,
ongoing Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), implementation of completed FTAs, WTO accession, bilateral intellectual property rights
concerns, and implementation of the WTO Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPs). ITAC 15
has provided advice on the IPR Aspects of seventeen FTAs and their implementation. ITAC 15 has provided advice on negotiations
for the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement(ACTA). In addition, ITAC 15 channeled its advice on Special 301 activities, including
out-of cycle reviews. The Special 301 provisions of the Trade Act of 1974 require the USG to determine whether the policies
and practices of foreign countries deny adequate and effective IPR protection. ITAC 15 also continued to monitor implementation
and compliance with the WTO TRIPs Agreement, providing advice on WTO TRIPs, Council reviews and geographical indications registration
system, and WTO dispute settlement cases. ITAC 15 also advised the U.S. Government on ongoing Strategy Targeting Organized
Piracy (STOP!) activities. In addition, ITAC 15 advised the U.S. Government on negotiating objectives for WTO accession.
