Number n/a 1965
Description Unspecified The Sea Grant Advisory Board was formed in 1976. Over 30+ years, the Advisory Board has provided advice and recommendations about the National Sea Grant Program through multiple forms, including recommendations on individual projects (during the 1990's), on individual programs through the Program Assessment process, and on the functioning of thematic aspects of the broader Program. The 1965 number given assumes an average rate of 50 recommendations per year, based on a rate (over the 10 years of the PAT process up to 2006) of approximately 50 PAT recommendations, and 10 program recommendations per year. Since the recommendations performance measure has only been formally requested since 2003, we are unable to provide a more accurate total for the 30+ year life of this committee. In FY11, the National Sea Grant College Program received 17 recommendations - 16 recommendations for state programs during the Site Reviews and one recommendation from the Allocation Subcommittee. In FY10, the National Sea Grant Program replaced the PAT system with the new Planning, Implementation and Evaluation (PIE) system. Once every four years beginning in 2010, a site review team (SRT) will visit each Sea Grant program. Each SRT will be chaired by the NSGO program officer and co-chaired by a member of the Advisory Board with a Sea Grant Director as a review team member. Additional members of the teams may be drawn from the Advisory Board and/oroutside experts as needed. The SRT will meet with the program management team, advisory committees, and university administration to review and discuss broad issues related to three of the four evaluation components: 1) program management and organization; 2) stakeholder engagement; and 3) collaborative network activities. During the first year, Board members participated in 13 SRT and provided 26 recommendations through the PIE system. In FY 09, we received 34 new recommendations. In 2008, the Advisory Board focused on the Fisheries Extension Program (6 recommendations), National Office Staffing (1 recommendation), and the COPE (1 recommendation).
