    • This committee supports the DHS S&T Mission to “strengthen America’s security and resiliency by providing knowledge products and innovative technology solutions for the Homeland Security Enterprise,” with its specific emphasis on members who have expertise with technology innovations and knowledge products, and who have experience applying them to the HSE. More specifically, this committee addresses DHS S&T’s five goals, as follows: (1) “Rapidly develop and deliver knowledge, analyses, and innovative solutions that advance themission of the Department.” In this area, committee members will help provide solutions that are integrated into operations by assessing our processes and helping to strengthen program management; (2) “Leverage technical expertise to assist DHS components’ efforts to establish operational requirements, and select and acquire needed technologies.” In this area, committee members will help strengthen DHS acquisition process by focusing on a systems engineering approach: (3) “Strengthen the Homeland Security Enterprise and First Responders’ capabilities to protect the homeland and respond to disasters.” Several of the committee members were selected specifically for their knowledge of first responder needs and to help ensure that committee recommendations take those needs into account; (4) “Conduct, catalyze, and survey scientific discoveries and inventions relevant to existing and emerging homeland security challenges.” In this area, committee members will help ensure constructive use of other federal facilities and of resources within academia through their own networks and by specifically addressing the need to leverage other’s technology; (5) “Foster a culture of innovation and learning, in S&T and across DHS, that addresses challenges with scientific, analytic, and technical rigor.” In this area, the committee will help increase awareness of cutting-edge research and developments by virtue of its role as expert external advisors, selected specifically for their knowledge in these areas.
