Understanding the value that corporations and businesses can bring to service, the Corporation works with the private sector in a number of creative ways. In 2008, we launched Billion + Change, a three‐year campaign aimed at generating $1 billion worth of pro bono work by skilled volunteers to help nonprofits become more effective in meeting social and community needs. This initiative has already generated more than $400 million in pro bono commitments in marketing, finance, technology, and management consulting, and other areas. In addition, some companies have made direct contributions of goods and services to the Corporation, while many others have provided matching funds or in‐kind contributions to organizations receiving Corporation grants (http://www.nationalservice.gov/about/initiatives/probono.asp).
