Standards processes that are consensus-based, open, balanced, transparent, flexible and timely help to ensure that standards are globally relevant (i.e., are globally acceptable and usable and do not reflect specific regional/national technical or political approaches or agendas) and meet societal needs related to security, safety, health, and the environment.
