The Open Group Staff: Management Team

Allen Brown: President & Chief Executive Officer -- Allen Brown is President and CEO of The Open Group - a global consortium that enables the achievement of business objectives through IT standards. He is also President of the Association of Enterprise Architects (AEA). For over 10 years Allen has been responsible for driving The Open Group's strategic plan and day-to-day operations, including extending its reach into new global markets, such as China, the Middle East, South Africa and India. In addition, he was instrumental in the creation of the AEA, which was formed to increase job opportunities for all of its members and elevate their market value by advancing professional excellence. Prior to joining The Open Group, Allen Brown held a range of senior financial and general management roles both within his own consulting firm, which he founded in 1987, and other multi-national organizations. Allen is TOGAF® 9 certified, an MBA alumnus of the London Business School and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Steve Nunn: Vice President & Chief Operating Officer -- Steve Nunn is the VP and Chief Operating Officer of The Open Group. Steve's primary responsibility for The Open Group is to ensure the legal protection of its assets, particularly its intellectual property. This involves the development, maintenance and policing of the trademark portfolio of The Open Group, including the registered trade marks behind the Open Brand and, therefore, the various Open Group certification programs, including TOGAF®, Open CA, Open CITS, and UNIX® system certification. The licensing, protection and promotion of TOGAF also falls within his remit. In addition, Steve is CEO of the Association of Enterprise Architects (AEA) and is focused on creating and developing the definitive professional association for enterprise architects around the globe. To achieve this, Steve is dedicated to advancing professional excellence amongst AEA's 20,000+ members, whilst raising the status of the profession as a whole. Steve is a lawyer by training and has an L.L.B. (Hons) in Law with French and retains a current legal practising certificate.

James de Raeve: Vice President, Certification -- James de Raeve is the Vice President, Certification, overseeing all certification and testing programs of The Open Group, including the popular TOGAF certification and the new IT Architect Certification Program. Since joining the company in 1989, James has been closely involved with all of the certification and testing activities of The Open Group and its predecessor X/Open, as well as the programs developed for other consortia. Before joining The Open Group, James worked in business development and technical roles in protocol testing and telecommunications. He holds an MSc in Digital Systems and a BSc in Physics.

Dave Lounsbury: Chief Technical Officer -- David is Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and Vice President, Services for The Open Group. As CTO he ensures that The Open Group's people and IT resources are effectively used to implement the organization's strategy and mission. As VP of Services, David leads the delivery of The Open Group's proven collaboration processes for collaboration and certification both within the organization and in support of third-party consortia. David's previous executive assignments at The Open Group and the Open Software Foundation (OSF) include VP Advanced Research and Innovation. In this role, he was in charge of coordinating corporate activity for major programs among the development, membership, and specification/test/branding business activities. He also served as VP of the Collaborative Development Group, which fostered availability and proliferation of open systems technology through collaborative funding and development. Major programs in the group included LDAP, ActiveX Core Technology, DCE 1.2, CDE-Next, and Complex Text Layout PST's, as well as support and consulting activities. Other assignments at OSF included Director of the Distributed Environment Engineering group. This group was responsible for production of the DCE 1.1 and DME 1.1/Network Management Option technologies. David was the manager of OSF's DCE effort from the announcement of the RFT in 1990. Prior to coming to OSF, David worked for Prime Computer as the manager of the Multiprocessor Operating Systems group, working on systems incorporating CMU Mach and Unix System V release 4 technology. Earlier, he led the Open Systems technology group, which developed a variety of networking products including SNA, TCP/IP, and OSI Ethernet. David holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and is holder of three U.S. patents.

Chris Forde: GM Asia Pacific -- Based in Shanghai China, as GM-APAC, Chris is responsible for business functions in the region. Chris is an enterprise architect and has held various leadership roles in business architecture, application development, information management and technology operations throughout his career. Prior to joining The Open Group, Chris worked at American Express as Vice President for Strategy and Architecture for their Customer Servicing Capability. Chris has deep expertise in enterprise architecture and, as Chair of the Architecture Forum, he was instrumental in driving the successful development and launch of TOGAF™ 9 from 2007-2009.

Patricia Donovan: Vice President, Marketing -- Patricia Donovan is Vice President, Marketing at The Open Group and a member of its executive management team. In this role she is involved in determining the company's strategic direction and policy as well as the overall management of that business area. She joined The Open Group in 1988 and has played a key role in the organization's evolution, development and growth since then. She also oversees the company's PR activities, conferences and member meetings, plus the Association of Open Group Enterprise Architects (AOGEA). Patricia is based in the USA.

Len Fehskens: Vice President, Skills and Capabilities -- Len Fehskens is responsible for The Open Group's activities relating to the professionalization of the discipline of Enterprise Architecture. Prior to joining The Open Group in 2007, Len led the Worldwide Architecture Profession Office for HP Services at Hewlett-Packard. He majored in Computer Science at MIT, and has almost 45 years of experience in the IT and enterprise architecture fields, as an individual contributor and a manager, within product engineering and services business units. Len has worked for Digital Equipment Corporation, Data General Corporation, Prime Computer, Compaq and Hewlett Packard. He is the lead inventor on six software patents on the object oriented management of distributed systems.

Jim Hietala --: Vice President, Security -- Jim Hietala, CISSP, GSEC, is Vice President, Security for The Open Group, where he manages all security and risk management programs and standards activities, including the Security Forum and the Jericho Forum. He has participated in the development of several industry standards including O-ISM3, O-ESA, Risk Taxonomy Standard, and O-ACEML. He also led the development of compliance and audit guidance for the Cloud Security Alliance v2 publication. Jim is a frequent speaker at industry conferences. He has participated in the SANS Analyst/Expert program, having written several research white papers and participated in several webcasts for SANS. He has also published numerous articles on information security, risk management, and compliance topics in publications including CSO, The ISSA Journal, Bank Accounting & Finance, Risk Factor, SC Magazine, and others. An IT security industry veteran, he has held leadership roles at several IT security vendors. Jim holds a B.S. in Marketing from Southern Illinois University.

James Scott: Chief Financial Officer -- James Scott is the Chief Financial Officer of The Open Group and a member of the Executive Management team. His duties include internal financial reporting to the Board and the Executive Management team and liason with the company's auditors, tax advisers, bankers and statutory authorities in the USA and in the UK. James previously worked for 10 years at Logica plc, in various senior financial management roles within businesses based in the UK, Europe and India. Most recently he served as Finance Director of Logica's global Outsourcing Services operation. James also served as CFO of The Open Group in 2002-03. James began his career working for Ernst & Young in London. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and has an honours degree (BCom) in Commerce with French from the University of Birmingham.

Jim Bell: Chair -- Director, Industry Standards Program Office, Hewlett-Packard Company -- Jim Bell is Director of the Industry Standards Program Office at Hewlett-Packard Company. He is responsible for leading the development and execution of a focused strategy for effective, coordinated participation by HP businesses in industry consortia and standards organizations. He also represents HP on the Governing Board of The Open Group and serves on the Advisory Council and Advisory Board of the WorldWide Web Consortium. Jim's previous responsibilities at HP include: General Manager of the Open Source and Linux Operation, General Manager of the Embedded Software Operation, Director of Strategic Initiatives, Director of Internet Alliances, Director of Open Systems Alliances, Director of Corporate Alliances, President of the Precision Risc Organization, Director of Integrated Information Management, Information Systems Group Engineering Manager (commercial and office products), Technical Computer Group Engineering Manager (workstations and other technical computers), Technical Systems R&D Manager (workstations and minicomputers), and Computer Products Group Engineering Manager (all of HP's commercial, technical, and personal computers). During 1995 and 1996, Jim served for fifteen months as President and CEO of X/Open, President and CEO of the Open Software Foundation, and after their merger, President and CEO of The Open Group. Prior to joining HP, Jim managed various engineering functions at Digital Equipment Corporation from 1968 to 1980, serving as the Corporate Director of Research from 1973 to 1980. He previously held positions with Bell Labs, IBM, SRI International, Control Data Corporation, Northwestern University, and Stanford University. He earned a B.A. from Dartmouth College, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from Stanford University.

Terence Blevins: Department Head, MITRE -- Mr. Blevins is a department head at MITRE. He is a Board Member of The Open Group, representing the Customer Council. He has been involved with the architecture discipline since the 80s, much of which was done while he was Director of Strategic Architecture at NCR Corporation. He has been involved with The Open Group since 1996 when he first was introduced to the Architecture Forum. He was co-chair of the Architecture Forum and frequent contributor of content to TOGAF including the Business Scenario Method. Mr. Blevins was Vice President and CIO of The Open Group where he contributed to The Open Group Vision of Boundaryless Information Flow™ He holds undergraduate and Masters degrees in Mathematics from Youngstown State University. He is TOGAF 8 certified.

Allen Brown: President & CEO, The Open Group

Alan Doniger: TOGAF® Consultant, Shell -- Alan Doniger consults for Shell in the area of advanced enterprise architect professional development, training, and certification, as well as consulting with other oil & gas and computer industry organizations. Alan Doniger worked for twenty years with Energistics, previously called POSC, a not-for-profit, consortium for the development of industry standards for data exchange, reference data, knowledge-information-data taxonomies and catalogues, application interoperability, and data management in the Exploration and Production (E&P) sector of the Oil and Gas industry. Alan served as CTO and was involved in the planning and execution of standards development and support, special interest groups, marketing, and communications. He maintained liaison with industry collaborative and standards organizations, including ISO, MIMOSA, OMG, The Open Group, Open O&M, POSC Caesar, PIDX, and PPDM Association. Previously, Mr. Doniger was engaged by Gulf and Chevron for ten years. During his tenure, he was responsible for managing a software standards, methodology, and tools group. In addition, he was responsible for leading the development of a multi-disciplinary, integrated E&P data and functional model. For the previous ten years, Mr. Doniger held consulting, management, and technical positions at Computer Sciences Corporation involving the communications, insurance, banking, manufacturing, and oil industries. He specialized in data base systems and software development methodology. Mr. Doniger holds an MS degree in Computer Science and an AB degree in Mathematics from Cornell University. He is a member of the ACM, the IEEE Computer Society, and the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Mr. Doniger has served The Open Group's customer members since 1996, serving as Director on the Governing Board since 1998 and as Chair of the Governing Board from 2004 to 2008.

Darrin P. Johnson Sr.: Engineering Manager, Server Software Group, Oracle -- Darrin Johnson is the director responsible for customer advocacy and business direction for industry standards for Oracle's systems software products. His direct responsibilities include Solaris kernel, drivers and conformance and driving programs around serviceability, performance and virtualization. Prior to his current role, Darrin was the Sr. Manager for the OS Modernization team in Solaris. He was responsible for development and delivery of the next generation of life cycle management for Solaris including packaging, install, and system configuration/integration. Darrin has also contributed to the innovation in Solaris in the areas of network virtualization, power efficiency, performance, scalability and advanced platform support. In addition, Darrin has held various positions in management, engineering and programs management at Cray Research, Silicon Graphics, Adaptec, and Sun Microsystems. He has consistently been involved in industry standards driving adoption and representing company interests both formally and informally. Darrin holds a Bachelors of Science degree with a major in Biochemistry and Genetics and a minors in Computer Science and Biochemistry from University of Minnesota. Darrin also received his Masters in Business Administration in 2002.

Stephen G. Bennett: Alternate (for Darrin Johnson) Senior Enterprise Architect, Oracle -- Stephen G. Bennett is a Senior Enterprise Architect at Oracle, and previously with BEA where he was the Americas SOA Practice Lead within BEA's consulting division. Stephen is a 25-year experienced technologist focused on providing thought leadership, best practices, and architecture guidance around SOA and cloud computing. Stephen has spoken at several conferences and customer events. He has co-chaired a number of working groups within the Open Group organization around SOA Governance and TOGAF/SOA. He has delivered technology management and enterprise architecture consulting to many enterprise customers. Before becoming a consultant, Stephen was involved in delivering enterprise-wide mission critical systems within the investment banking industry.

Andras Szakal: Alternate (for Kumar Nallapati) Chief Architect, IBM Federal Software Group, Distinguished Engineer and Senior Certified Software IT Architect, IBM -- Andras Szakal is Distinguished Engineer and Chief Architect of the IBM Federal Software Group. His responsibilities include developing e-Government software architectures using IBM middleware and managing the IBM federal government software IT architect team. Andrasl holds undergraduate degrees in Biology and Computer Science and a Masters Degree in Computer Science from James Madison University. IBM has repeatedly recognized him for his role in building the IBM federal government software business.Andras has been a driving force behind IBM's adoption of federal government IT standards and is a member of the IBM Software Group Strategy Team. He and his architect team have been responsible for helping the federal government move e-Government into the On-Demand era. His team has been directly involved with multiple high profile successful government software and services engagements based on open standards and open source. These engagements include the following programs: US Air Force GCSS-IF, Department of Education Office of Student Financial Aid Modernization, FBI Trilogy, IRS Modernization, Customs Modernization, SSA Modernization and the e-filing initiatives at the USDA.

Dennis Taylor: Information Security Architect, NASA -- Dennis Taylor is an Information Security Architect. He is a technologist with more than 30 years experience in nearly all facets of information technology. Most recently Dennis has been involved with the architecture and engineering of NASA's Identity, Credential, and Access Management (ICAM) program. Centralization to a single identity management system with a distributed directory structure and access management system across all NASA Centers has greatly increased collaborative opportunities and improved the user experience for the mobile work force, while meeting Federal compliance mandates. His prior NASA experience was as Director of the NASA SEWP Security Center. Dennis led security research efforts for a team investigating a wide range of security topics, ranging from machine integrity attestation to identity management. Dennis has also been the Chief Architect for the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center IT outsourcing contractor. Dennis worked for nearly 10 years in health care information technology--involved with rapidly increasing demands of information flow from mainframe to minicomputers and distributed Unix systems. Dennis's initial IT career was as an IBM mainframe system programmer. He greatly enjoyed developing, as part of a team with two others, an original operating system for this environment. Dennis is a CISSP. He has a number of vendor certifications, and is a GIAC GPEN. Dennis has an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland.

Ron Tolido: CTO Northern Europe Asia Pacific, Capgemini -- Ron Tolido is Chief Technology Officer of Capgemini for the Northern Europe and Asia Pacific regions. He actually studied Dutch Language and Literature at the University of Leiden before earning a BSc in Information Technology at The Hague Polytechnic. Trained by AT&T's Bell Labs, he was one of the first Unix System V kernel specialists in the Netherlands. During his career, Mr. Tolido has been involved in many different engagements pertaining to (commercial) software product development, technology consulting, architecture and IT strategy, both in operational and executive roles. He published several books on software engineering, including 'object-oriented modelling & C++' and 'IAD, evolutionary development of information systems'. He is or has been a columnist for IT magazines such as Software Release Magazine, Corporate .Net Magazine, Datanews [corporate]solutions and Business Consultant magazine. Mr. Tolido is a frequently invited, vivid speaker on innovative IT subjects. He is a jury member of the annual Benelux 'Development Tools' RAD Race. Furthermore, he is the external examiner for the Master of Science Course E-technology of Knowledge Centre Cibit / University of Middlesex, a member of the Programme Committee of the Dutch NWO 'Jacquard' IT innovation / stimulation programme and board member of Gridforum Netherlands. He acted in the board of commissioners of MarketXS (market data technology) and is currently a member of the advisory board of Astragy (strategic intelligence services). Mr. Tolido's interests include excesses in philosophy and literature. He loves Open Source. He loves Microsoft too. His recent bundled columns ("The Black Madonna's of IT", in Dutch) were published in August 2004.

Andy Mulholland: Alternate (for Ron Tolido) Global CTO, Capgemini -- Andy Mulholland joined Capgemini in 1996 with thirteen years of experience in senior IT roles. An early pioneer in PC/Network technology, Andy's focus on Information Technology, as opposed to traditional Computing, brought him international recognition for Internet based technology. He has published five white papers, in the last six years, proposed Technology Architectural models, three of which have become the norm throughout the Technology industry, including the concept of ‘Adaptive IT'. Mulholland's role of Global Chief Technology Officer includes advising the Capgemini Group management board on all aspects of technology-driven market changes. Mulholland serves on the technology advisory boards of several organizations and enterprises, including Cal IT, (the Californian State Technology Board), and has been, or is, a director of various Industry boards including the Open Mobile Alliance, and the MIT Supply Chain Group, both working on approaches and standards for aspects of the Mobility and Sensors market. He is also a Fellow of the British Computer Society. He is particularly knowledgeable on the alignment of IT technology to serve business objectives with emphasis on improving the communication and use of information in business processes. Currently this expertise is of great value in defining Web Services and IT Governance models, two areas requiring hybrid business and technology understanding. He has worked in all major industry sectors on strategic initiatives to deliver business advantage from Technology. Andy coined the name ‘Techno Business' to describe the new forms of technology generated Business formats, such as e-Bay. An experienced senior executive with strong skills in the strategic, tactical, and management aspects of technology, and services provision, he has been the founder, or co-founder, of four technology companies that have either been acquired by leading multinational technology companies, or gone public on the small capital NASDAQ market.

Tom Van Sante: Portfolio Manager, Getronics -- Tom van Sante is Program Director and Principal Consultant / Enterprise Architect for Getronics (now part of KPN Consulting). He started his career in IT over 30 years ago after studying Engineering/Architecture. Working in a variety of functions, from operation to management, he has always operated on the borders between business and IT. He was involved in the introduction and development of IT standards like ITIL in the Netherlands. Tom van Sante has worked in numerous appointments for lots of different organizations where he advised on the use of IT in modern society. He was responsible for the introduction and development of TOGAF® within Getronics. Tom is co-writer of the TOGAF Pocket Guides and author of a number of other publications on IT standards and Architecture. Tom is the elected representative for supplier members on The Open Group's Governing Board.

Liang-Jie (LJ) Zhang: Senior Vice President, Chief Scientist, & Director of Research, Kingdee International Software Group Company Limited

Dr. Robert Y. Chu,: Chief SOA Technology Expert, Kingdee Research Institute -- Dr. Robert Y. Chu was awarded the Ph.D. in Computer Science degree from Virginia Tech in USA. Dr. Chu has over 25 years of experience. His expertise includes: Enterprise Architecture (EA), The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF 9), Business Process Management (BPM), Process Classification Framework and Key Performance Indicator, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), SOA Reference Architecture and Service Development Methodology, SAP and Oracle products research, Object Oriented Analysis and Design, Software Development Methodology, Application and Product Development. Dr. Chu is currently working as the Chief SOA Technology Expert of Kingdee Research. He is also the Chief Technology Office of the Open Group franchise in China. His research interest includes the design of the next generation enterprise management products, BPM and SOA service platforms and portals, and landing projects for new technologies like BPM, SOA, EA/TOGAF, and Cloud Computing.
