Today we live in an era in which massive amounts of information are collected, analyzed, integrated, and disseminated in novel
ways to make the world a better place. The unprecedented volume of data generated today is transforming virtually every industry
and creating new opportunities and challenges for businesses, government, and society. Every day new advances in computing
technology, including faster processors, cheaper storage, lower-cost sensors, superior algorithms, better displays, and ubiquitous
wireless networks, are unlocking additional opportunities to harness data and create a world that is alive with information.

- Daniel Castro: Daniel Castro is the director of the Center for Data Innovation and a senior analyst with the Information Technology and Innovation
Foundation specializing in information technology policy. His research interests include data privacy, information security,
e-government, electronic voting, and accessibility. Mr. Castro previously worked as an IT analyst at the Government Accountability
Office (GAO) where he audited IT security and management controls at various government agencies. He contributed to GAO reports
on the state of information security at a variety of federal agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)
and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). In addition, Mr. Castro was a Visiting Scientist at the Software Engineering
Institute (SEI) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he developed virtual training simulations to provide clients with hands-on
training of the latest information security tools. He has a B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and an M.S.
in Information Security Technology and Management from Carnegie Mellon University.
- Travis Korte: Travis Korte is a research analyst at the Center for Data Innovation specializing in data science applications and open data.
He has a background in journalism, computer science and statistics. Prior to joining the Center for Data Innovation, he launched
the Science vertical of The Huffington Post and served as its Associate Editor, covering a wide range of science and technology
topics. He has worked on data science projects with HuffPost and other organizations. Before this, he graduated with highest
honors from the University of California, Berkeley, having studied critical theory and completed coursework in computer science
and economics. His research interests are in computational social science and using data to engage with complex social systems.
- Jordan Misra: Jordan Misra is a policy intern with the Center for Data Innovation. She is student of international development, economics,
and statistics and is entering her senior year at the University of Maryland, College Park. She has worked with after-school
programs in DC Public Schools as a tutor and an AmeriCorps VISTA member and recently interned at the Census Bureau through
the Joint Program for Survey Methodology's Junior Fellows Program. Jordan's research interests include education reform, community
development, international development policy, and statistics.
